The High-Drive Ebike system

The High-Drive (patent pending) is a fully modular ebike motorization system utilizing a drivetrain independent of the bottom bracket of the bicycle. The High-Drive instead runs the power of the motorization system through a special frame component called an "upper bracket." The system offers four major advantages in comparison to mid-drives:

.

1. Serviceability: Because the High-Drive is modular, you can work on or upgrade one of its components without having to take apart the whole system. This makes it relatively easy to work on.

.

2. Customizability: The first-stage of the reduction system is easily accessible on the side of the bike, and can be adjusted to change the overall top speed/max torque of the bike. All you need is a single allen wrench. Also, the bottom bracket can be made to common bicycle standards on a High-Drive. So can the rear dropouts. This makes High-Drive bikes compatible with your favorite off-the-shelf cranks, chainwheels, hubs, chains, etc.

.

3. High efficiency: The unique drivetrain requires far less motor reduction than mid-drive designs. All else being equal, the lower the reduction ratio, the higher the mechanical efficiency.

.

4. High power-to-weight ratio: The High-Drive allows a lighter weight reduction system than mid-drives in the same power range, and also does not require the additional weight of encasement, given that it is encased within the custom frame design itself. This results in a lighter weight system overall. We routinely run our BMX High-Drive at 3800 watts max, ~1500 watts continuous, and yet the entire system is 6.9lbs including the 1/8" chain.
